While I love to wear color, I can also appreciate a great neutral. I’ve noticed that I definitely tend to wear a lot of neutrals in the fall and winter months. Neutrals are always a safe bet for those mornings when you’re not sure what to wear, but they certainly don’t have to be boring! A super chic and interesting way to wear neutrals is to wear a monochromatic outfit.
Wearing the same color or shade head to toe may sound daunting and even boring, but I promise it’s easier than you may think! Keep reading for my top three tips for wearing a monochromatic outfit!
PLAY WITH TEXTURES AND PATTERNS
When you’re wearing the same color head to toe, a great way to add interest to your outfit is to mix up the textures and patterns. In today’s outfit, I wore items with different textures to add dimension and interest. My tie front skirt (currently 50% off), mockneck top, and knit cardigan are all made of different materials which is why this outfit is anything but boring.
TRY DIFFERENT SHADES OF THE SAME COLOR
In a monochromatic outfit, you can add interest by wearing different shades of the same color. In my outfit, for example, I wore black and dark grey. You could do the same thing with lighter shades of grey, white, brown, or really any color.
ADD INTEREST WITH ACCESSORIES
I added a pop of color to my outfit with my favorite crossbody bag and kept all of my other accessories neutral. While my over-the-knee boots and wool fedora are the same color as the rest of my outfit, they’re still unique and interesting pieces. Oh, and if you’ve been on the fence about over-the-knee boots, the ones that I’m wearing are currently 20% off, so grab them while you can!
